Long Live the YOUth

We all have our tricks of the trade to live the fullest, healthiest and longest life we can. After all Eleanor Roosevelt did say, “Life is what you make it. Always has been, always will be.” So why not make it a long and healthy one?

There are basic rules of thumb that, if followed, can lead to just that. Sounds like common sense, but how are you matching up with these simple – yet effective – ways to improve your life?

Start with eating healthy. Just because you’re craving something doesn’t mean it’s good for you – most cravings are for junk food. Go ahead and feed the craving, but don’t overdo it; denying your body what it wants may lead to overeating in the future, but eating junk food all the time is not good for you either.

Learn to relax properly. Those who take time for silence and contemplation remain more at ease and avoid stress more often than those who allow it to become overwhelming. Too much stress builds up both physically and emotionally – make the time to clear your mind.

Be sociable! Having human contact is a necessity. Being around people leads to a happier life and gives us a feeling of fulfillment and comfort.

Wear your sunscreen. It’s not just an Old Maid’s Tale. That number next to SPF is your code to healthier skin and a healthier life.

Learn your family’s medical history. Although sometimes scary, its information you need to know. Some medical diseases can be passed down through generations – and some can be prevented. So learn what you need to be aware of so you can take the precautions early to avoid complications later on.

Brush your teeth. Yes, oral hygiene is part of a healthy lifestyle! Making this routine can avoid dental problems. If you don’t take care of your teeth it can lead to heart disease.

How do you check out? Don’t chance it, enhance it! These six easy steps to a longer and healthier life will make for an even better you. (And a little pampering doesn’t hurt either!)

Have You Burned Bridges With Your Skin Care?

Avoid the burn this summer by establishing a summer skin care regimen! The summer just started so take advantage of it while you can; good skin health to take you through the entire summer is right here at Elizabeth Grady. Your DO’S and DON’TS under the sun…

DO’S

DO make sure to wear sunscreen – with a recommended minimum SPF of 15 or 30. This should be applied at least 15-30 minutes before you enjoy the sun. Try the Elizabeth Grady sunscreen, and make sure to apply on the lips, eye area, ears, and neck as well!

DO have a facial at least once a month. This will make sure you get rid of excess dirt, oils and impurities that build up during summer months. Also, this will help prevent breakouts!

DO wear your favorite hat! Long visors or rims will help block the rays to prevent burning on your face and eye area. Pair the hat with some sunglasses and you’re good to go. Not only do the sunglasses protect your eyes, but it will keep you from squinting! (This being a major contributor to those lines around the eyes, we want to prevent those too!)

DO moisturize your body and face before and after sun exposure. Being exposed to the sun takes a toll on the natural moisture in your skin, so replenish with moisturizer – and water as well…drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration the sun may cause. Our suggestion: Elizabeth Grady’s Microcare Replenish.

DO avoid the sun during its strongest rays. Between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.: enjoy the shade.

DON’TS

DON’T stop using your sunscreen once you get that tan! You still need the coverage regardless.

DON’T expect all parts of your body to tan equally. Some of the more delicate body parts may need extra time to catch up to speed – less clothing means more exposure!

DON’T overdo your time in the sun. Sun exposure accelerates the skin’s aging process and increases your risk of skin cancer.

DON’T underestimate the importance of regular facial treatments and a proper skin care routine to maintain healthy, smooth, younger-looking skin.

At Elizabeth Grady, all of our make-up is non-comedogenic (non-clogging) and provides broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays that contribute to premature aging of the skin. You can find an SPF in all of our make-up so you’re ready for the sun at any time.

Get beach ready with Elizabeth Grady this summer and toss some SPF in that beach bag!

Men: Your Way With the Razor

It is very well-known that there is a distinct difference between men and women. Consider the different clothing, different features, and often different interests as well. But it doesn’t stop there – a man’s skin is uniquely different from a woman’s. Everyday stresses have an effect on your individual skin care needs. Whether it be shaving, sports activities, or business travel there is one main concern we have for all men: facial hair and shaving.

It seems to be just another piece to the puzzle in the everyday routine for men. Remaining clean-cut and smooth seems to be the desired look above the scruffy, 5 o’clock shadow, but this may be doing more damage than you think. Why? The steps to prepare the skin for its next shave and the steps taken post-shave are crucial – and need to be done correctly.

Your Steps to the Perfect Shave:

  • Always wash your face first. With warm water, use Vitamin E Cleansing Gel or Azulene Cleanser with a washcloth to cleanse the skin. This aids in removing dead skin and loosening ingrown hairs. If you have sensitive skin, do not scrub vigorously.
  • After cleansing, heat your razor blade by running it under hot water.
  • Apply Oil Free Moisturizer lightly over the beard area to buffer the skin from the shaving cream. (If you use shaving cream directly over the area it may cause some irritation.)
  • It’s now time to shave. Make sure to use light pressure and shave in the opposite direction of growth – this allows for a closer shave. However, if you are prone to ingrown hairs then it may be more beneficial (and less painful in the long run) to shave with the direction of hair.
  • Once you have finished shaving, make sure to spray or splash with Lavender Hydrating Lotion (yes, we said lavender). Follow this by applying Oil Free Moisturizer or Sensitivity Protection Cream to soothe irritation, and reduce redness and blotchiness.
  • DO NOT use fragrance or after shave lotions on freshly shaved skin. Why? Fragrances contribute to redness and irritation, and the high alcohol content that is commonly found in after shave causes the skin to become dry and tight.
  • Most important? Make sure to change your blade every two shades.

So, men: skin care is for you too. Come in to any Elizabeth Grady location and book your appointment today!

Wax It Away For The Summer Days!

This season its okay to settle for less – after all, less is more! Right now, come take advantage of the BUY THREE GET ONE FREE Waxing Sale at Elizabeth Grady! Beach weather is on its way…are you ready?

At Elizabeth Grady we have waxing for everyone! Go with a full bikini or Brazilian bikini: leave a little, or take it all off. With our estheticians being experts in the area of waxing it’s safe, gentle, effective and long-lasting. Buy your three bikinis and get one free so you can enjoy the latest in high- and low-cut swimwear and lingerie.

This promotion is good through May 31st so get your wax on!

A few helpful tips to prepare you for your appointment:

  1. To help reduce the pain (especially for first-timers), taking some ibuprofen or aspirin an hour prior to the appointment is recommended. Although waxing is somewhat painful, the more experienced the person doing the treatment, the less likely it will be so uncomfortable.
  2. Try to avoid swimming or sunning 24 hours leading up to the wax as well as the 24 hours following your appointment. It is normal for the skin to have redness or bumps for a short amount of time; ice may help this irritation.
  3. The type of underwear worn is entirely left up to the person getting the waxing done; however, it may be easier to wear a thong since there is less material to interfere with the treatment. Also, it is recommended to wear older underwear and clothing, or something that may be easier to wash due to residue wax that will most likely end up on the underwear and clothes post-visit.
  4. Set aside ample time for your appointment. If you choose to have a Brazilian wax, expect at least a 30-minute timeframe for the entirety of the session. Times may change depending on the type of wax and the person who is doing it.

Lastly, say “Goodbye” to shaving and “Hello” to Elizabeth Grady! Book your appointment today: call 1-800-FACIALS or go to www.elizabethgrady.com for a location nearest you!

Exercise That Skin Care!

We’ve all been hibernating due to the weather we most recently survived through. Now with the sun shining there is spring cleaning and outdoor activities! You might be taking care of those errands…but are you taking proper care of your skin?

We all know daily exercise is the best way to stay in shape. It rids your body of impurities and helps prevent disease and ageing. But if you don’t properly clean your skin before and after you exercise, you may be fighting a battle against yourself. Always use a good cleanser, toner and moisturizer prior to and following any physical activities.

Face it: a good moisturizer is your protection against dehydration. Depending on the type of physical activity, the type of moisturizer may change. Go with an oil free moisturizer such as our Microcare Replenish when you are engaging in activities that stimulate excessive perspiration or for outdoor summer sports. In the winter, sports such as skiing and snowboarding require a heavier moisturizing cream.

Treat yourself to regular facials. It may seem like a luxury treatment, but it is recommended by our estheticians to have monthly customized facials. For people who exercise regularly, regular exfoliation, deep pore cleansing, and hydration are essential. So book your monthly appointment today!

Sensitive skin? Cooling down with cold water isn’t what to do – allow your body a cool down period first. Use our Elizabeth Grady Sensitivity Protection Crème. Then, treat yourself to hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms to prevent any increased sensitivity in the skin from heat. Who knew pampering was so good for you?

Make sure you drink plenty of water to replace any fluids lost during physical activity and take extra care against UV exposure with SPF 30 to prevent the formation of wrinkles, age spots, and skin cancers. For younger looking skin, try the Elizabeth Grady Hydrosurge Crème to correct the appearance of imperfections. Don’t forget your lips! Use SPF lip balm during the day and your eye cream on your lips at night.

Welcome the weather with the proper skin care to keep your body and skin as young as you feel. Book an appointment at Elizabeth Grady today for your personalized skin care treatment and stay healthy with your regular pampering needs! Call 1-800-FACIALS or go to www.elizabethgrady.com for a location near you!

“C” For Yourself!

We all know the saying, ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’ but what about an orange? Oranges are very high in Vitamin C, and it is generally what the doctor recommends to fight a cold. However, new studies show it can do even more! Vitamin C can also be used to prevent and even reverse aging skin. Here at Elizabeth Grady, we like the sounds of that!

For the month of April, and in the celebration of Spring (finally) we have your Vitamin C savings. All of our Vitamin C Services and Products are on sale! In what form do you want to receive your daily dose?

  • Five Star Facial
  • Vitamin C Firming & Lightening Facial
  • Age Defying Eye Treatment
  • Intensive Brightening Eye Treatment

Why is Vitamin C so good for your skin? It is an antioxidant that fights against ultraviolet radiation that leads to aging skin. Vitamin C acts as the first defense against this type of damage. Also, it is an essential factor for the maintenance and growth of collagen – the key component of most tissues.

So welcome the upcoming weather ahead with your Vitamin C fix! April starts your Vitamin C boost at Elizabeth Grady, so book an appointment today: 1-800-FACIALS or www.elizabethgrady.com. Orange you excited for April?
